I’m finishing up a small tool cabinet made out of apple branches (yes, yard prunings) and it involved lots and lots of plane use. I tried a Stanley a couples of times and got just horrible tear out so it was infills all the way (four different ones, big to small). Grain direction just isn’t an issue, which is a huge plus because I don’t pay attention to it and get into trouble with Stanleys. I’m really enjoying using the Iron Maiden and thought I’d post another photo; this after smoothing the apple panel that forms the top of the cabinet. Click on the image for a HUGE version.
